Borgmatic is not really mentioned in the Borgbackup documentation:
I guess it would be useful for users who are not too handy with scripting to see an example in the official documentation. For example, over at:
Any ideas on whether this would work? I would be interested to know if you've already talked about this. I am wondering about the crossover between the world of borgbackup development people and borgmatic development people now :)
I believe the history is that, long ago, I asked the Borg authors if they would consider integrating a configuration file to make it easier to run Borg and manage its command-line options. If I recall correctly, they said they saw that responsibility best handled by external tooling outside of Borg, and thus borgmatic was born. I think this discussion must have been on IRC, because I'm not immediately finding any tickets covering it.
So while I would personally love to see Borg's Quick Start guide mention borgmatic and other similar tooling, I think the Borg authors would probably consider that outside the scope of Borg and its docs.
Having said that, you are welcome to file a Borg ticket and see if anything has changed on this front in the last few years!
OK, I see, thanks for the history.
I've opened up https://github.com/borgbackup/borg/issues/4581 to see.
I'll close this off for now then and follow up on #4581.
